October 28 #3
So I have just decided that this blog is rather therapeutic so I am just going to write in it whenever. I will try to include MGSC in all of them at least... Anyway I am really excited that I got such a good grade on Access #2, I just hope that I will be able to remember it all for the actual exam.
Thursday October 28 #2
So my other October 28 post was basically a recap of what we have been learing and this is the real blog for today. So we definitely went over the information really fast in class today and I did feel like there was a lot of information. However, I do like that you highlight in red the information that is important to know. I think that this makes it a lot easier to go home and review what we have learned. I would definitely not have enough time to go in and read each and every slide from beginning to end, so this highlighting system really seems to help me. The whole concept of CIM systems was somewhat confusing to me. I didn't really find CIM systems to be all that interesting so I think I had trouble processing the information needed to understand which has made it hard to remember the information. I did like learning about the nuclear powerplant in San Onofre. I am assuming that you were talking about what we all refer to as the "big boobs" ...meaning the two weird white dome shaped things that you see when driving down the 5 freeway towards San Diego. I mean if thats not what you were talking about...I am still quite interested in what those things are. Anyway the HRIS and HRM systems was something that I did like learning about. It is definitely important to udnerstand what is required in a business and I feel that this is something that could be nothing but beneficial. It was really interesting learning tha tthe job of HR is not to hire people, but to eliminate people from consideration. I am starting to get scared that I am going to graduate school with all of these degrees and not be able to get a job anywhere. I mean I truly hope that this is not the case but it is definitely something that I think about everyday. I mean I'll probably just stay in school till I'm 70.

So my blog is rather behind since I am slightly blonde and it took me a little while to figure out how exactly to write a blog. So I appologize that this blog is going to be extra long...that is because I am going to try to make up for the past couple weeks that I did not miss. OOPS :) Anywho...when you mentioned that it was a requirement to learn Access my heart I think stopped for quite a few seconds, maybe even a minute...just saying. I took a microsoft office class a few years ago and lets just say that I failed the test when it came to Access, so I was not excited for this class. Anyway I am not so scared anymore. I am definitely one of those people who learns from practice not simply from listening. Listening to a lecture, I will sometimes maintain the information that we are discussing in class...however, sometimes it will leave my brain about 5 seconds after I walk out of the classroom door. When you first showed us the access project that we were going to be creating I simply thought "I'm screwed." However, it is not as difficult and complex as it might look. Well maybe it is but at least I think I finally understand it and what we are doing. Doing the computer club and the hair salon ones in class really helped me to understand what to do. My only critique is that sometimes I think you should try to pause even just for like a minute to make sure that we are all caught up. Sometimes it is hard if we click one button wrong to get back up to where you are. An honestly, I messed up on the relationship part of my first access and I definitely missed when you went over relationships in class because I was trying to fix something that I had missed earlier on in the lecture. Anyway, that is my only complaint. I found it a lot easier to do the assignment after we had gone over one in class. I never even went back in to look at the example ones we did, I simply was able to just do the project. Practicing the other assignments in class really seemed to help. I do wish the projects were worth more than they are...I spend more time working on the projects for Access than I do studying for an exam and I feel that they should be worth a little bit more than they are. But that's just my opinion. I also really liked doing the second access assignment. Being able to form reports and what not, I knew that I would be able to apply this knowledge to other parts of my business career. I often go to this spa where they look up your name and do all this stuff in the computer and pull up reports that say all the types of products I use and the services that I usually receive. I always wondered how they were able to remember all of this information for each and every person at their spa. I also every birthday receive something in the mail offering me a special deal for my birthday. I thought to myself...wow this must take a long time having to go through each day and see whose birthday is going to be coming up soon. But now I understand they probably use somesort of a query to find out whos birthdays are coming up in February or some other period of time. I find this to be extremely fascinating. I recently went to the spa over the weekend and actually asked them what they are using as their database and what do you know...access. They have created their own database that they are able to input informatoin into. This is something that I can now do and honestly I feel somewhat powerful!

Well...today was not necessarily my favorite lecture...it was slightly long. But then again the class is one hour and fifteen minutes so I have no complaints. I actually did enjoy learning about e-Business. I am really into online shopping...a really poor habit to obtain I must admit. However, I did learn a lot about how it works; and to be honest I am a little sketchy of putting all my banking information online in order to simply purchase a purse or some shoes...I might have to start driving to the mall. Learning about all of the abbreaviation such as SCM and TPS were rather difficult. I find them to be so full of information that it is really hard to retain it all. I think I am going to need to pick one of the topics and study one each day for a week, otherwise, I know that I will not remember them when it is time for the test. However, I have since read over a couple of them and I do think that by going over them in greater detail I find that I am starting to understand them and retain the information more. Today I also enjoyed the news reports that were given. This is by far my favorite part of the class. I know that it is important to be up on the current news, however, I generally am not...I like that it is a requirement for this class because it really does force me to read them and I like being full of interesting facts.

Today I really enjoyed class. I loved listening to the guest speaker that we had. I felt that he was extremely interesting to listen to and found the information he provided us with to be very beneficial to our understanding of the corporate world. It was nice being able to listen to someone in the technology field, or more broadly, the business field, discuss how he came to be successful in a specific area of business. I am planning on one day entering the workforce of corporate America so I find it exhilerating listening to someone who has taken a similar path and become extremely successful. I was also excited to learn that he helped automate the Federal Reserve Monetary System and Electronic Funds Transfer Systems because this is something that interests me. I worked for Wells Fargo for nearly three years and I always wished I could understand how the funds are transferred and how the money is controlled. I would get frustrated quickly when trying to do specific funds transfers and I would love to someday understand all the technicalities that are involved. I really liked having Mr. Granville as a guest speaker and I would recommend using him in future classes.
